Taking A Spoonful Of Honey Before Sleeping: How Does It Work?
If you’re going to consume honey in the evening, don’t make “spoonful of honey and immediately fall asleep without brushing” your nightly ritual.
Your dentist would probably prefer a different ending.
How Much Is Reasonable?
You don’t need a giant tablespoon overflowing onto the counter.
If you’re using honey to soothe a throat or cough, a small amount may be sufficient.
Remember that honey contributes to your overall intake of added/free sugars, depending on dietary definitions and how it’s consumed.
More isn’t necessarily better.
Two tablespoons won’t automatically produce twice the benefit of one.
Six tablespoons definitely aren’t a health hack.
At that point, you’re consuming a substantial amount of sugar.
Honey in Warm Tea Can Be More Pleasant
For an irritated throat, many people prefer mixing a little honey into a warm drink.
The warmth can feel soothing, while honey provides sweetness and coating.
Just avoid making the drink scalding hot.
Very hot beverages can burn the mouth and throat.
Warm is enough.
You can also add lemon if you enjoy the flavor, although lemon doesn’t magically transform the drink into a detox potion.
It’s still primarily a comforting beverage.
Who Should Be Particularly Careful?
Honey isn’t appropriate for infants under one year, as mentioned earlier.
People who need to manage blood glucose should account for its carbohydrate content.
Anyone with an allergy to honey or relevant bee-derived components should avoid it according to medical guidance.
And people with persistent coughing shouldn’t keep treating themselves indefinitely with honey while ignoring the cause.
A cough can have many explanations, including infections, asthma, reflux, medication effects, and lung conditions.
Honey may soothe a symptom without treating the underlying problem.
